awesome phone!!, 2010-05-11 Even though I only got the phone about 3 hours ago I am very pleased with it. The touch screen is quite sensitive but you have to wait a bit for it to load. Unfortunatly I cant have internet on it but will have it soon because we have to phone the courrier. The qwerty keyboard is stylish and is very easy to use. For me it is hard to change between the backs but that probably wont be a problem for you if you get one. As I am not used to touch screen or qwerty keys it is slightly hard to adapt but after a while it becomes easier. The camera is a good one and the photo editer is also good. All buttons are easy to use and the unlock button has to be used as you could accidently phone someone!!
One To Avoid..., 2010-05-06 A few pros and cons for those considering the 'Genio Slide'
First, the pros:
- It's good value for money; one of the cheapest wifi enabled phones around and has a lot of good features.
- It looks good; smooth and stylish lines.
- It was easy and relatively cheap to unlock.
- Contrary to a previous users review, the alarm will work when phone is switched off. There is an option to have this set either way as well as several other useful alarm features.
Now, the cons:
- The user interface is difficult to master and I still (for example) ask it to scroll and it selects an icon - very irritating.
- The software has just deleted over 400 files of my music. I asked it to delete 1 file and it attempted to delete the whole lot.
- The software crashes when I attempt to load something from the `app store' and very regularly at other occasions.
- The software fails to recognise that my phone is connected to the computer. This is despite that fact that it is recognised by ` my computer'. If you buy this - DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE.
- Although the wifi is handy, it has a very weak signal and can be hard to connect at any distance.
- Selecting a recipient for a text is a long and cumbersome process.
- The keyboard is not that useful; much easier to use the touch screen.
In short, although there are a few fun features of the phone, I have had a rather frustrating experience. Hope that helps a few people make their decision!
Slide of Hand, 2010-05-17 Nice phone. Got mine a few days ago. I had an old Sony-Ericsson K750i which by contrast is slow and awkward to use. Time for a change - the phrase that usually underpins our buying behaviour. The Slide arrived well packaged. In the box were the phone, battery, charger, white headphones split into two parts - for extra length, two extra back covers (I used the black one), a 2GB Sansdisk Micro SDHC card (Class 2) with an adapter for full size SDHC, a brief manual (you can get a function guide manual off Samsung's site), a micro USB cable and some Skies software on two 8cm CDs for accessing the phone's functions from a PC (can download latest version from Samsung's site).
Operating the phone is quite easy. The touch screen can be adjusted but is still awkward to use at first - gets easier after some practice. It'll work with a stylus. There's a predictive text option. The screen is easy to read but not as high a resolution as I would like; at this price one though can't expect everything. Videos and pics look good and can be viewed landscape which makes videos a bit larger. You can use the supplied micro USB cable to access your PC and put MP3s, videos, jpegs, etc., on your phone but that is very slow and it is not the card being class 2 since a class 6 card performs as badly; no the connection seems like USB 1.1 rather than USB 2.0. I found the best way is to use the adapter and use a card reader to put files from your PC on the card - much quicker. Seems the supplied Skies software does not work with Windows 7 64-bit - so the aforementioned seems the quickest way to get files onto thew card.
Now the phone is quite a complex thing with many functions. Describing them all would take another manual. But it has 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and many other connection options. It has widgets and you can add more and easily organise them to suit. There are three screens on which you can leave widgets and quickly move between them. Text input is easy either via the touch screen or the excellent Qwerty keyboard. The Qwerty is very easy to use and responds quickly and accurately. The landscape view when using the keyboard is better for text entry. Those alone are worth the buying the phone for.
There are widgets for Facebook, BBC iPlayer, MySpace, Google Maps, Flickr, Pixasa, Twitter, Bebo, etc. It is an MP3 player and not a bad one at that - the sound is pretty good, it's an FM radio with he earphone for aerial (in-earphones are quite good), it has games and you can ad more java games. It's a 3.2MP camera which gives a usable image in good light. Video is only 320x240 and 15 fps. Video calling is possible with 3G and the front-facing lens. It has many functions.
For the money, this is a very well specified hughly-configurable phone. As ever check out other reviews.
Important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 2010-07-05 One thing I want to add about this phone. When you are conected to the internet you can load iplayer and then download them to the phone to be watch later. You can watch them without INTERNET. Something most phones cannot do. Superb phone.
Must buy.
