 An excellent printer, 2009-07-13
I have had this printer for almost a year and I am more than happy with it. Over all it does what it suppose to do. For those who say that the ink levels are getting 'mysteriously' lower and lower even when they do not use it,they have to know that when they do not use it for a long time the cartridges are getting dry. This is the case for all the ink based printers. I would suggest to go for a laserjet printer to avoid such problems. As for the USB cable, the current policy for all the printer companies is to exclude it to cut down the costs...how cheap of them.
Personally, I am a heavy user printing more than 1200 pages per month. If you cannot afford the ink costs (although they are average) I would suggest to have a look around. I buy mine for £7.99 (a pack of four). I know they are not the original ones but I am willing to take the risk.
For those who want to print directly from Windows Live Mail (the desktop version of hotmail) just to let them know that you will come across with compatibility problems.
I only needed support once from their company and their response was prompt. I have never used the fax so I can't say comment on it. I wish it could print duplex automatically but I can live without it.
My opinion is just go for it.

My purchace of the Brother MFC-235Ccompactcolour printer from Amazon was very easy ,and next day delivery was brillient .

Having bought this product 1 month ago i find because there was no USB port lead i could only use the Brother as a copier.
I tried 1 USB lead but it would not finish downloading the software, so at the moment what i wanted the 4 in 1 for was to print off the many pictures i have, i can't do this with this machine without the proper USB lead. Why it never came with one i'll never know but out of 10 i would rate this machine useless and give it 0.
Worst machine I've ever brought., 2010-03-04
Having owned this machine for months now I'm very unhappy and about to take great pleasure in smashing it up. Avoid this machine at all cost as when the machine is switched off it still does some kind of cleaning function regularly, which basically means it's using up all of the ink when not in use. I've never known a machine to do a clean cycle when not turned on. It's designed to suck your ink cartridges dry as soon as possible.
Another flaw is that when 1 of the 4 cartridges runs out, the whole machine cannot be used, even the copier. Which in turn forces you into buying a cartridge even if what you're trying to do does not need that cartridge to complete the job in hand.
It can't cope with thicker papers either such as CD labels, and gets jammed very easily.
It's the worst machine I have ever brought in my entire life.
Believe me I'm not one of these people that spend my entire life on these review pages, in fact this is the first review I've given a product, but I feel very strongly about this machine. It's a total waste of time and very costly to run, avoid it like the plague.

Was a little concerned that the Brother MFC-235C was going to be a cheap piece of Tat. I need not have worried it carries out all it's functions in a very satisfactory way. Best of all, replacement cartridges are cheaper than most, and generic versions are readily available. Better than my previous machine which cost 3 times as much!
