Average rating of 5/5 Great upgrade, 2010-03-11
We had a pair of the older Dualphones (also I believe from RTX) but the batteries have started to fail and there seems no way to get replacements with the right connections (US Amazon refused to ship to the UK! Homeland Security, I guess). So we upgraded to this new version and I've been very impressed in the 24 hours I've had it. The handset paired quickly with the base station and seemed to fully charge after about 3-4 hours, not the stated 6. I had to close down the old Skype PC-based program before the phone allowed me to sign in to Skype, but that was no problem as I no longer need that to be running now with this non-PC-based version. Interestingly, Skype running on a wifi laptop doesn't offer any interference to the new phone version, so video-Skyping from there is still fine, with the new phone being used for Skype-out or landline-in-or-out calls.

The keyboard is still rubbish, but actually better than the previous model, and though the numbers are indeed small, anyone who uses a phone at all knows the layout of numbers by now, so it's not particularly difficult to use. The call quality on Skype, Sykpe-out and landline is a quantum leap better than with the previous phone, so that in itself is a bonus. And the battery life is much better too. I've just taken a 50-minute call and the green battery indicator showed no discernible use of the battery at all. The ringing tone is a fraction quiet and a bit dopey-80s disco, but actually distinctive enough to be heard over the sound of a TV next to it in the living room.

So good, I've sent for a secondary handset already for use downstairs.

Average rating of 5/5 Great phone !, 2010-02-10
This phone works great. I would recommend it to anyone. Easy to use and hook up. I no longer have to keep my computer on to receive calls. Awesome!!

Average rating of 4/5 Good value, 2010-02-15
I use this phone for skype only and it dose exactly what it says on the box.I purchased an extension hand set after about two
weeks of using this phone as i was very impressed with its performance.I could not say what it would be like using this phone as a dual purpose IE land line, as my intention was to use it for skype only. But if its anything like it is on skype i don't
think there would be any problems. My only negative is the quality of the speaker a little be distorted almost like it lose?
that's why i gay it 4 stars otherwise it would have got five.A little expensive but i works!!! great display very clear. In all very pleased, if you are thinking of buying one i don't think you will regret it. John

Average rating of 4/5 V. good skype phone, 2010-02-06
I searched many reviews for the best skype phones available with no pc connected. I found out this had the best reviews on the internet and amazon. The other netgear phone i heard from a friend that it heats up after a some time of use. However, after several days of using this rtx 3088 phone, it's easy to setup, sound quality is very clear, and no problems at all from day one. The only drawback is the small buttons and tiny numbers. Besides the price tag too, it would've got a 5 stars. The bottom line I would confidently say it's one of the best skype phones on the market.

Average rating of 4/5 Initial thoughts - just received it today, 2010-02-10
Having read the mixed reviews of this phone, I decided to order one anyway for various reasons, namely to use skype without PC's on, and because it is a cool gismo (just being honest).

What has been made clear by other users is that the problems with this phone seem to occur when you upgrade the software which the phone keeps asking you to do, so I have not and will not.

Firstly, it has done exactly as was described, connected it up, turned it on and has worked. Signed into skype, and it found all our contacts, and then made a call (sadly unanswered so I can't comment on the sound quality of the phone). On this basis alone I am 100% satisfied.

4 stars only as the phone and base station itself are very basic, and certainly not a stylish addition to your house. They have a cheap "plasticky" feel. The buttons need to be pushed firmly which I like, so they are not likely to be pushed accidentally.

Functionality of the phone is limited or very well hidden, no call volume adjustment (that I could find) for example, however thats not a major issue given the benefits of using skype without your PC on.

For those who like technology and are looking for "good reasons" to extend their home network and spread more network cables around the house, this is great, as you need to connect the base station to your network.

As and when we have had some actual use out of the phone (batteries still charging) I will post more feedback.

Edit: Now had a chance to talk on it and the sound quality is not as good as using my PC with headset, nor as good as a normal telephone call, however it is good enough.

Have also since found the call volume adjustment - can only be done during a phone call it seems.

One thing to note, when you receive a call on skype, whilst the skype phone rang my PC which was also logged into skype did not ring. Not a major problem, just mentioning this.

Overall satisfied.

Edit: Having now had the phone for a couple of days, and used it a bit more, I am very pleased with it. You get a great feeling knowing that you are making international calls to a mobile phone (skype installed on mobile - and user has free data usage in contract) and it is totally free!!!

Very pleased.
