Speed took me by surprise, 2008-03-13 I have only had this machine for just under a week. In common with all other printers I've seen on sale recently it doesn't come with the USB cable, but then most stores will alert you to this fact. I couldn't find the product sticker on the machine but it was on the outside of the box it came in so no worries there for registration purposes.
My old epson printer took a lot longer than this machine does to produce a page of mono text and I was caught off guard as a result. Its handy to be able to use the optional duplex facility as it cuts down enormously on the amount of paper you get through. Photos that I've printed out and scanned into the pc before printing have come out nicely and duly been dispatched to my mother (stops her nagging about lack of pictures of the great grand-kids). Its worth shopping around for the photo paper though as this can work out pricey and the added bonus of not having to purchase a separate photo cartridge is pleasing to my pocket. I also like the way that you can close the front output tray when its not in use and save on the dusting!
Be warned that if you want to alter print settings before printing out stuff, you really need to go through the machine's own software to do so - its easy enough to find as it places itself on your desktop as it installs- trying to alter print settings from the application you're in at the time gets ignored. Overall I think its a nice piece of equipment and worth the money.

MP 970 is a BIG yes, 2008-08-03 Certainly not a 'compact printer' with its (approx) 47x40x21 footprint so make sure you have the space - BUT it is an excellent product and does what it says on the box very well indeed. Setting up was relatively easy after reading the instructions a couple of times. Networking the printer proved to be so simple, taking it slowly to ensure I did everything correctly the whole process took under the hour, from opening the box to printing a couple of test sheets from each PC.
Must congratulate Amazon given the first delivery did not turn up, albeit the carrier said they had left it outside of my house, they sent a FOC replacement the next day - first class service.

HP Officejet 6310, 2007-11-15 This is quite simply the best printer I've ever bought. I got it as a present for my partner and she's absolutely delighted. It was very easy to set up on a partially wireless network and does all the jobs I could ask for and more. My only complaint is that it doesn't come with an ethernet or USB cable, but I had one lying around so no problem. I haven't used the fax functions yet, but I'm sure they do the job to the same standard.
Also when buying ink disregard the comments of anyone shamelessly plugging a certain website that sells refilled/refurbished cartridges. It's likely that they work for this company and they're being paid to write these bogus reviews that don't reflect their true quality. One of them seems to have the same opinion of 23 different cartridges and has written identical reviews for them. Sad.

One of the best multi purpose machines, 2008-07-13 I needed a printer to replace a Xerox Phaser 6110 Colour Laser printer and also a scanner to scan old photos. After much deliberation between this and the Kodak, I opted for this machine and I am glad I did.
The machine was well packed and all the information needed to get you started in all there. The ink comes in 5 different tanks (cyan, magenta, yellow, black and pigment black). This is very handy because if 1 colour goes, just replace that ink. An old HP machine (and the Kodak I was looking at) had a tri-colour cartridge, so if only 1 colour went, you had to replace all. This is a waste of money and bad for the environment.
I have a Mac, and this printer came with the software to operate all the components via Mac and Windows. Not many printers come with dedicated Mac software, so another plus point.
The printer has 2 paper input trayte, one underneath and one on top. I have put a wad of A4 paper in the bottom tray, and when printing envelopes or on glossy paper, I feed this in the top, so no need to keep taking out the paper in the bottom tray. When you print, if it is not already open, the bottom flaps down so that the printed paper comes out, very handy. Print quality is very good to amazing, depending upon the quality of the paper. Also, printing is fast. Even a high quality print on gloss paper comes out quickly and with little noise.
If printing text, you have an option to duplex print (print both sides of the paper). If printing out a booklet or lots of pages, it is a very handy feature not normally found on printers in this price range.
If you have printable CD/DVD's then place them in the tray and slide it in the printer, the software will allow you to position any text/pictures and when ready, will print directly on the discs with amazing results.
The scanner is very quick. My last scanner was 8 years ago, and this is a big improvement. A lot quieter and much quicker producing high resolution images that can be easily edited and saved. A feature also allows you to adjust via the scanner such as red eye removal, de-fade images etc. Once scanned in only seconds, you can easily edit them in other software such as iphoto, Photoshop etc.
Of course, for duplicating pictures (copying) then you can use the printer without a PC connected. The front top flap lifts up to reveal a colour screen where you can easily navigate to scan, copy, photo-reprint, CD label print etc, as well as print images directly from a memory card inserted in the card slots on the right. With photo-reprints, you can enlarge a 6x4 photo to a 10x 15 etc, or enlarge just a section and produce multiple copies or a single copy. You can even connect a digital camera directly to the printer so no need to remove the memory card, but have not tried this yet.
The only drawback is that it is not network ready, so cannot connect it to the router but instead have to use a USB lead in the computer. You can buy a bluetooth dongle and make it a bluetooth printer, but these are almost half as much again as the printer was to buy.
Overall, I am still only just beginning to use all the facilities this great printer has to offer, and can recommend it to any Windows or Mac user who is looking for a printer and scanner.

Canon Pixma MX310,, 2008-04-18 I use this printer working from home for general printing, scanning and copying. I have a separate printer for photo printing. For small business use its pretty good. It replaced a Hp office jet J5780 which went in the bin after the scanner gave up and the software fixes rubbished my laptop. The Cannon is better alround. Quick printing, good software interface. Only 4 starsbecause strangely the copy button is on the left of the panel and the colour/black and white select button is on the far right. Can not comment about the ink use/cost. I suspect it will be about the same as its competitors, grossly expensive, but thats why the printer is realitively cheap.

fax software problems , 2008-01-01 I bought this fax modem to use on my new Dell computer with Widows Vista Home Basic 32BIT. I followed all the instructions. It was recognized by Windows Vista as a modem. I then followed the instructions and installed its fax software called FaxTalk Communicator. But I was unable to send faxes. whenever I tried to send one a message came up: 'This print operation requires that fax talk Call Control is running'.
I contacted Company Technical Support and followed all their instructions. I also uninstalled and reinstalled all software again and again and still got same problems!
Strangelly enough I was getting messages offering me to upgrade for better FaxTalk Communicator software and pay for that of course!
I bought it for the porpuse of using it to send and receive faxes but so far it has been useless for me.
I was hoping the Company would offer an alternative fax software to use but it was not the case.
I tried to find fax software that is compatible with Windows Vista online but it would cost money. why should I pay more if the fax software is supposed to be part of item I bought!
I believe Company should look into the matter and offer a wider range of better fax tools.
I thought i should share my experience online as I could not see any feedback about this fax modem before buying it.
