Was looking for a very simple phone which was SIM free to replace a similar Nokia phone that my wife ad. This did the job just fine. It needed to have Bluetooth so she could sync with her laptop and the hands free kit in the car. It does all of this without any issues ;-)

This is my absolute favorite! It is slim and light, fits in any pocket (jacket or jeans), and the battery is enough for a week (if you don't talk all the time, naturally).
However, I use it mainly to take calls and I don't use any functions apart from calling and txt messages. It allegedly has a radio and camera but I have never tried to use either and I don't think I ever will. You can browse the internet with it but although the screen is fairly big and bright I would not recommend it too seriously unless you need a weather forecast or currency exchange rates. It does have games as well but if you're choosing your mobile to play games, how 'bout getting a life?
Very decent materials, after three months of using not a trace of wear and tear. Nokia software is a league of its own but then if you had one Nokia you move on to the next and you don't look at others. And you don't need anyone trying to convince you how good it is. I have always asked for the cheapest Nokia there was and I have never complained.
This is a phone for adults - you won't impress anyone with it. If you think your sex appeal needs some accessorizing, you may not find this one your perfect choice. In other words - if you need a phone, it is the perfect choice. If you need a lot of other stuff as well, it probably is not.

A phone for phoning, 2009-07-15
Bought from Amazon Market Place supplier, ordered last w/e and arrived Tuesday, before it was supposedly due for despatch! So that's the quick, efficient service dealt with!

As for the 'phone it's self, most has already been said. It is a brilliant basic 'phone, made for the original purpose - 'phoning.

O.K., it lacks all the latest must have gizzmos like camera, blue tooth, multi media, internet surfing, etc., but if you don't particularly want that, and I don't, with a desktop and a laptop sitting in front of me, it is brilliant for 'phoning and texting, with a few other added useful features like alarm, count down timer, stop watch, etc.

It is large (thick) by today's standards but, in fact, is just nicely chunky to hold, with positive, well seperated keys. If only Nokia would bring out a 'phone built like this, with just a camera and an SD Card slot, it would be ideal, especially in case of accidents, crime, etc.

The problem with the current generation of mobiles is that they are just too small. The keys are far too close together and not well seperated or marked so, for anyone with limited dexterity or the slightest eye-sight problem, they are difficult to use. They are so small and thin, that they feel like little more than a credit card in your hand and feel like cheap toys. That is the reason why I am selling a recently purchased Nokia 2630; a brilliant little 'phone if you can physically operate it! Call me a ludite and an old codger if you want, but I'm only fifty something.

The moral is that for a youngster who wants all the modern frills, look elsewhere, but, for a more mature person who wants a basic 'phone with a few useful extras, this is ideal and is a breeze to use.

This phone is no longer available from network operators but can still be bought from independent vendors. The phone is well made, with a nice tactile feel to it. It fits easily into a pocket without being heavy or bulky. The display is clear and bright and the keys work with a positive feeling. Battery life is good. The digital voice recorder is easy to use and gives good sound quality. The camera produces good images but the display is very hard to see in direct sunlight. Phone operation/phonebook/ringtones are all fairly standard.It is supplied with a Windows PC package that lets you create and send text messages and manage your contact book using your PC. This works fine with XP but does not work with Windows 7

nokia 5140I review, 2009-09-27
I've used this handset, for work, for more than 4 years - it's brilliant - battery life is excellent, it's been dropped down culverts, bounced around the working yard, and I take and make in excess 100 calls per day. I'm probably 'on' it for more than two hours every day. I've not used the camera, so can't comment, but this handset has been excellent for me. Some of the buttons are a bit temperamental, but I think this to be expected in a handset of this vintage!
