For some time now I've been wanting to upgrade my Nokia 6300 with this latest version and was put off by a review from Stephen Sweeney titled `Essential features cut' in AMAZON. He appeared to be quite technically specific so when he referred to the phone as not having essential (and I quote) `no way for you to see whether you have missed calls or received texts. There is nothing - not even the thin strip of information that previous phones such as the N6500 Classic has. The ONLY way to find out if you have a missed call, etc. is to pick the phone back up and press the keys. I am stunned that such an essential and time saving feature has been removed! Annoyingly, it is impossible to configure how long the screen remains lit and it is also not possible to set any other features of the display. Why on Earth it is like this, I do not know". I thought I'd pay attention and steer clear of this phone.

After persevering with my old 6300 long enough, and with nothing else on the market, I decided to stick with tried and trusted Nokia and buy this phone which I did through an Amazon market place seller.

I'm guessing what Stephen means is that if the phone's display is black you don't get the flashing light feature of the Nokia 6300 to know you have text or missed phone call, but how hard is it to press a key to see if the screen shows a text or missed call? My phone is on or near me constantly and the ring tone settings allow the ring or text alert to be heard easily, and very loudly if desired. If you have to put your phone on silent or be away from it for a short time, wouldn't you check it out of habit? Yes, I miss the blue flashing on the 6300 but not so much to lose a star for the 6700.

While Stephen is correct about not being able to configure how quickly the display goes into sleep mode, you can absolutely change other feathers in the display to suit your personal needs.

Other reviews mentioned calls cutting out part way through, and not switching on at all. I've never experienced any of these issues. One reviewer here even got antsy with it not having a touch screen, but it never purported to do so?

In all, I'm really pleased with the Nokia 6700, and only sorry I waited so long to upgrade my 6300. It's feels solid to hold, though it is small and thin, the keys are very responsive, large bright screen, and good battery life. It's a stylish bit of kit with all the bells and whistles I would expect from a mobile phone in 2010.

It's fast, the contacts integrate well with e-mail and fb etc. The e-mail preview is great. Had one hardware issue and got the phone replaced. Some things a bit technical such as setting up wifi printing. Preinstalled copilot 15 day trail only.

I wanted a clam shell phone because the other kind have a habit of dialling without permission. I love this neat shiny little phone with clear buttons and an excellent little camera built in.
My old clam died after seven years of use. I did not want a phone that went online or jumped through hoops. This one does far more than I expect of a phone and does take nice photos- surprisingly good. A friend helped me download a ring tone to make it distinctive. The nokia softwear online using bluetooth dongle was not straightforward to operate and crashed the computer- maybe that was my fault but such programmes have to be easy to operate in the settings. I reckon I just installed too much SW. The help of a friend soon corrected that, and we were off- sharing photos by bluetooth easily and my friend (techie) was impressed with the quality of the photos randomly taken on the phone. My daughter's expensive contract phone is nowhere near as useful. I am yet to try the radio out but I bet it is good. The battery seems to last well, and I am proud to carry it everywhere with me.
I saw reviews that considered it to be expensive but it was half the price of some of the contract handsets without sim card lock ins. Maybe they do jump through hoops but on pay as you go, I have no wish to own such devices.

good value for money, 2010-08-24
After having several issues with the signal on various Samsungs I decided to go back to the ever faithful Nokia, and certainly wasn't disappointed. The signal is strong and I haven't lost the network connection once. Like other Nokis phones the battery life is strong and lasts for 3-5 days before flatlining. I was impressed with the size of the screen considering its a flip phone and the buttons are a decent size too. It has the layout of a typical Nokia phone making it easy to adjust to. Overall I was very pleased with my purchase, especially considering I unexpectedly received a 2gb memory card with the phone. The only negative thing is that the external screen doesn't activate everytime you tap it, yet when you set it on a table it lights up straight away!

I have been waiting for the 8520 to be released in red. Found it sim free on amazon at a amazing price. I only had to wait about 10 days for it to come back in stock and it is great. Much easier to set up than I thought and does everything I need it to.
