This product works very well (well mine does anyway, considering other reviews). The unit is partially charger on purchase and then either plug in, connect to computer or connect to the solar slave to achieve a full charge. My iPhone charges really well and gets just about 3 charges from a full device. YES, the solar slave DOES work, not that well in UK, but excellent in strong sun (Med or France) and will fully charge in a day. Read the label - its a trickle charge device.......!! So many spare tips, you can charge most things from this, but cannot charge a device and recharge the unit.

Highly recommended. Good service through Amazon as well.

Amazing stand-alone solar charger!, 2009-09-22
I have been using a Solarmonkey for nearly a year now and its a great little device if you know how to use it properly! Make sure the panel is in direct sunlight and facing the sun at all times and you wont get any issues - obviously its a solar product so its not going to work on grey and gloomy days - its not magic! One word of advice is check that you are supplied with the Solarmonkey WITH solarnut version - this Solarnut aids the panel in providing a constant and correct output.

If you would like a device which is able to store the power generated from the panel before discharging into a device you should consider purchasing the Powermonkey eXplorer unit.....

Really great product, is always in my gym bag so no more being caught at the gym with an I-Pod without power. Works on rechargeable batteries which I just stick in the charger every couple of weeks. Solidly made, have dropped it a number of times and no problems. Very easy to use. Highly recommended.

Really useful product, 2010-09-01
I'm surprised that some people have had problems with this product.

I got one just over a year ago, and have used it on several camping trips to keep my mobile (BlackBerry 9700, and the wifes Nokia) charged. Ok, a full charge on the PowerMonkey gives me a full charge on the BB, but that's more an issue with the Blackberry battery than the powermonkey.

I am very impressed with the solar cell though. Once they powermonkey has sacrificed itself to charge my phone, I have had the solar cell strapped to my rucksack to charge the monkey. Ok, so it takes most of a day to charge it, but we are in the UK, and the UK isn't known for great sun.

Outstanding product, and well worth it.

no more dead phone/missed photo moments!!!!, 2010-09-04
I have a K800i phone which can capture photos. However, using it as a camera drains the battery like crazy. I remember when I was in london and taking a video for the changing of the guard and the battery died!!! How fusterating. Worse of all, I can't make calls with a dead battery.

This product will have solved all that. I bought it from UK suppliers and it arrived earlier than expected :D. I tested it with my phone and it charges it up. Haven't used it on the go yet...

Convenient but not that much juice, 2009-12-29
I bought this to charge my hTc Hero that when used heavily, has about a 6 hour battery life and so this seemed an ideal companion. What I have found is that once the chimp is fully charged, it was only able to charge my ipod Touch by 50% before running out of juice.

Unfortunately, my hTc Hero killed itself and so until a replacement arrives, I can not give you feedback on how much of the chimp's juice is needed to fully charge an hTc Hero.

Power traveller customer service is really excellent. I got a really friendly, well informed and very helpful reply to a query about the product within 2 hours from a person called Emily Wilkinson.

What a great bit of kit!, 2010-06-15
I got my Powermonkey Explorer the Christmas before last and have taken it twice now on gulet holidays in Turkey. Gulet (boats) have mains power available for only a few hours a day and I am able to keep my iPod and iPhone charged up with ease. I tend to leave the device plugged into the mains whenever I can so if power does come on I don't miss it. Solar power works much better in Turkey than in England - I expect there is a simple reason for this!!! The Power Monkey also makes a useful addition to my TomTom 720 for city walking since it adds so much more battery life.

My only regret about owning this device is that I now find myself obsessing about owning a Power Gorilla for my laptop - and then a Solar Gorilla. The little voice keeps telling me to buy them....

Brilliant speakers, 2010-08-29
These are brilliant speakers-good sound quality & plenty of volume if needed, which come in a handy plastic box. They are quite heavy compared to some other speakers I bought previously, but I was so disappointed with the sound & volume of first purchase from a different company that I bought these instead, and am now very happy.
